2009 August 《City Weekend》
Taiwan Tango
When did you start dancing? When I was a very little girl, around 10 years old. Later, I started to perform in commercials, concerts and other
events, and to teach.
Why tango? I was always just a back-up dancer. Last year I thought: what do I really want? It took me two or three months of exploring new dance and
new music. Among all the dances, I found that tango really satisfied me from all different dimensions-the music, the emotional aspect, passion, maturity, culture and health. Tango gives me
everything that I want to have in dance, so I went to Buenos Aires to study it.
When did you open your dance studio in Beijing? I started Camila Tango Salon in April. When I came back from Argentina, I tried to contact the
bosses of fitness centers or dance schools, but no one was interested in starting a new class, so I thought maybe I should do it myself.
Tell us about your August tango workshops. In August, we're going to have four weeks with four different workshops, taught by myself and an
Argentinean tango master. First, we'll introduce tango salon. The second week, we are going to teach how to dance at a tango party, or milonga. The third workshop teaches you how to utilize
music. You become a piece of art if you can combine yourself with music. The fourth week is about "show tango," for people who want to be noticed.
We saw your 2008 music video on Tudou.com. Are you a huge star in Taiwan? No, nothing like that. This is my hobby. I actually majored in business administration at Taiwan University. Anyway, the toutoushidao video was reggaeton, and now I'm a little bit more mature, so I do tango.
